Early Quilts

These two were my first big ‘art’ quilts. We had a couple of empty gables in the showroom of Acoustic Corner, a music store in Black Mountain NC that my husband and I used to own. We needed to fill them up with something that would mitigate sound. Being handy with a needle and thread, I created these quilts before I even knew what an ‘art’ quilt was! Marti Cummins, the owner of a local quilt shop (since closed) told me that “there are no rules; you can do whatever you want” and I took her at her word.

Musical Mountains ~ My first big quilt, about 12 feet long. Private Collection

Banjo Fish ~ 2009. Complete with accordion-playing octopus, also about 12 feet long. On display at Arrowhead Gallery and Studios. $820
